2 Do you ever catch yourself saying, “I don’t have enough time to start my dream business”? I get it, the struggle is real! But here’s the truth: you’re never going to have enough time. Let me say it again: you will never have enough time unless you take control of how you spend your hours. In this post, we’re diving into two key things you can do to beat that overwhelming feeling and actually create the time you need to start your dream business (or pursue anything else that matters to you).
I promise you, once you learn how to manage your time and prioritize effectively, you’ll feel so much lighter and ready to tackle your goals with full force. Let’s get into it!
I hear a lot of people, especially moms or busy professionals, say, “I just don’t have the time!” They’re juggling work, family, friendships, and everything in between. It’s no surprise that starting a business feels like an impossible task when your calendar is already overflowing.
But here’s the thing: we all have the same 24 hours in a day. And yet, some people seem to get so much more done than the rest of us. So what’s their secret?
It’s not magic. It’s about being intentional with your time. It’s about setting up systems that help you prioritize what really matters and ditching the overwhelm that comes from trying to do everything.
I’ve been there—feeling like everything is a priority. The laundry needs folding. The kids need picking up. The emails are piling up. The house needs cleaning. But at some point, I had to face the truth: not everything is as important as it seems.
I used to think everything needed to be done at once. But one conversation with my husband changed that. He pointed out that I was trying to do everything, and as a result, I wasn’t truly accomplishing anything. I wasn’t distinguishing between what’s urgent and what’s important.
If you’re constantly rushing from one task to the next, it’s easy to confuse urgent things (the stuff that feels immediate) with things that are actually important (those long-term goals or dreams). But the key to creating time for your dream business is to recognize the difference between the two.
For example, an urgent thing might be a phone call that needs to happen right away, or a work email that needs a reply. Important things, however, might include working on your business, self-care, spending quality time with loved ones, or building habits that move you toward your long-term goals.
Once you start separating urgent from important, you’ll be able to focus on what truly matters to you.
The second thing you need to do is create a daily system. I like to call this a “Daily Thrive.” What’s a Daily Thrive? It’s a list of intentional, daily activities that help you thrive as a human being. These activities should energize you, fulfill you, and help you feel like you’re living in alignment with your values and goals.
Now, I know this sounds like a lot of work, but trust me, it’s so worth it to get your days structured and planned in a way that helps you accomplish the things that matter most. You know, the things that, when you lie down at night, you feel proud of.
A Daily Thrive is essentially a time-budgeting plan, just like a financial budget. You plan out your time for the day, the way you would with money. It’s about being intentional with your hours. Ask yourself: How many hours do I have today? And then, What are the most important things I want to get done with this time?
For example, if you wake up at 6 AM and go to bed at 10 PM, you have 16 waking hours. How do you want to use those hours?
Start by creating a list of things you want to accomplish, and then break them down into routines (morning, afternoon, and evening).
To give you an example of what this looks like, let me walk you through my own Daily Thrive system. Of course, your system should look different depending on what’s important to you, but hopefully, this will give you some inspiration!
I’ve carved out a solid morning routine to help me start my day off right. Here’s what it looks like:
In the evening, I have a different set of priorities to help me wind down and reflect on the day:
Now, I know life happens, and sometimes you won’t hit every single item on your list. That’s okay! The point of this system isn’t to make you feel guilty for not being perfect—it’s about giving you a framework to work within.
Sometimes, I wake up late or miss a few items on my list. But that doesn’t mean my day is ruined. Instead, I take a look at my Daily Thrive and figure out what I can still do before I have to move on to the next thing. Flexibility is key. Life is unpredictable, but with a solid system in place, you’ll be able to stay focused on what really matters.
Remember, time is a resource, just like money. You have to budget it, plan it, and prioritize it. If you don’t manage it wisely, you won’t be able to accomplish the things that are most important to you—like starting your dream business.
By creating a Daily Thrive and prioritizing your time, you’ll start to see how much more you can get done in a day. It’s all about focusing on what really matters and leaving space for the things that might pop up unexpectedly.
Take control of your time, and you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish!
Are you ready to start your business? Don’t let time stand in your way. Create your system, prioritize what’s important, and take action toward your dreams. You’ve got this!
