ep 19 If you got a dollar for every time you thought, I don’t have what it takes to start my business, you’d probably be rolling in cash by now. The truth is, you’re not alone. That little voice in your head? It’s constantly trying to steal your confidence, keep you stuck, and stop you from stepping into the bigger purpose God has for your life.
But here’s the good news: You already have what it takes!
Today, we’re going to talk about three powerful ways to boost your confidence and shake off the feeling of not being enough—so you can finally start that business or keep running it with boldness.
Have you ever read the story of Gideon in the Bible? If not, don’t worry—I’ll give you a quick recap. Gideon’s story (found in Judges 6) is one that resonates deeply with so many of us because it’s a perfect example of someone who doubted himself but was still chosen for a greater purpose.
At the time, the Israelites were being oppressed by the Midianites. For seven whole years, the Midianites would invade their land, steal their crops, and leave them with nothing. It was a traumatic time, and Gideon was right in the middle of it—living in fear, hiding, and questioning God.
Sound familiar? Maybe you’ve been through setbacks, challenges, or traumas that have left you feeling stuck and unworthy. Maybe you’ve lost confidence in yourself, just like Gideon did. But here’s what’s interesting: when the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he greeted him with these words:
“Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” (Judges 6:12, NLT)
Wait—what? Mighty hero? Gideon surely didn’t feel like a mighty hero. He felt small, defeated, and incapable. But God saw him differently. And guess what? God sees you differently too.
So, let’s break this down. What can we learn from Gideon’s story to help us build our confidence and overcome the feeling of not being enough?
The first key to boosting your confidence is understanding that you already have something valuable to offer.
Let’s look at Judges 6:14:
“Then the Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go with the strength you have and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!’”
Notice that? Go with the strength you have. God didn’t tell Gideon to wait until he felt ready. He didn’t say, Hey, go train for five years first, then come back when you’re stronger. No—God was telling him that he already had everything he needed.
And so do you.
Right now, you have skills, talents, and gifts inside of you that are meant to serve others. Maybe you don’t see it yet, but it’s there. The problem is, we often focus on what we lack instead of what we already have.
Think of it this way: If you had a $100 bill, and it got crumpled, stepped on, and tossed around—would it lose its value? No! It’s still worth $100. In the same way, no matter what you’ve been through, your value hasn’t changed. You are still capable. You are still a solution provider. You are still enough.
So, take a moment to ask yourself: What skills or gifts do I already have that I can use to serve others? Because trust me—you have something.
Confidence is often shaken because we place it on the wrong foundation.
Let’s go back to Gideon’s story. In Judges 6:25-27, God told him to tear down his father’s altar to Baal (a false god) and build an altar to the Lord instead. Gideon was afraid, but he did it anyway.
Now, how does this relate to us? Well, sometimes, we build our confidence on shaky, insecure foundations—like achievements, validation from others, or financial security. But what happens when those things get shaken? Our confidence crumbles.
So, take a moment to reflect: Where have I been placing my confidence? Is it in…
If your confidence is built on things that can disappear overnight, it’s time to shift your foundation. Instead, root your confidence in who God says you are. Because unlike money, success, or people’s opinions, God’s truth never changes.
Here’s something you need to know: Confidence is built through action.
Many people think confidence comes first, but in reality, action comes first, and confidence follows.
Look at Gideon again. After destroying the altar of Baal, he still felt afraid. In fact, he kept asking God for signs to reassure him (which God graciously gave). But here’s the key: Gideon took action despite his fear.
That’s the real secret. Confidence isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward even when you feel afraid.
So, whatever you’ve been putting off—starting your business, launching that project, stepping into your calling—just take the first step. Do it scared. Do it nervous. Do it unsure. But do it anyway.
Because the more you take action, the stronger your confidence will become.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
