Let’s talk about something super important—making profit in your business. If you run a service-based business, you might have focused on growth, visibility, or even just getting your first few clients. But have you thought about profitability?
Profit is not just about having extra money—it’s about running a business that can sustain itself, grow, and serve others for years to come. In this post, I’ll share three major reasons why your service-based business should be profitable, and trust me, these reasons might just shift your entire perspective on business.
So grab your favorite drink, get comfy, and let’s dive in!
Yes, you read that right. Making a profit isn’t just a business goal—it’s a way to honor God. In the Bible, Jesus shares a parable in Luke 19 about a nobleman who gave his servants money and told them to do business with it until he returned. When he came back, he rewarded those who had multiplied what they were given.
The lesson? God expects us to be profitable with the gifts, talents, and resources He has entrusted to us. Profitability is a sign of faithfulness. When you manage your business well and make a profit, you are showing good stewardship.
And here’s something amazing—God even says in Isaiah 48:17, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.” God not only expects us to be profitable, but He also teaches us how to do it! If you’ve ever struggled with the idea of making money in business, let this truth sink in—profit is not greed. It’s part of God’s plan for you as a business owner.
Think about this: the more profitable your business is, the more people you can help. It’s as simple as that.
When you’re just barely making ends meet, it’s hard to give generously. But when your business is profitable, you have the ability to give back—to support charitable causes, fund Kingdom projects, and help those in need.
I love incorporating giving into my business. A percentage of my sales goes directly to Kingdom initiatives. And I’m not the only one—many entrepreneurs set aside funds to support ministries, sponsor programs, and help people in their communities.
Being profitable gives you the freedom to be generous. It allows you to be a financial partner in God’s work on earth. Instead of worrying about paying the bills, you can focus on making a difference. That’s why I always say, profitability is not just about you—it’s about who you can bless because of it.
This is a big one. When you manage what you have well, God will entrust you with more.
Going back to the parable in Luke 19—when the first servant told the nobleman that he had multiplied his money, the nobleman rewarded him by giving him authority over ten cities. The second servant, who also made a profit, was given authority over five cities. But the one who didn’t do anything with his money? He lost even what he had.
God is looking for business owners who can handle His resources wisely. If you prove yourself faithful with what you have now, He will expand your influence and increase your opportunities.
If you’ve been wondering why things seem slow in your business, ask yourself: Am I managing what I have well? Am I prioritizing profitability? When you begin to treat your business as a responsibility given to you by God, and not just as a hobby, things will begin to shift.
So let’s recap:
If you’ve been neglecting the financial side of your business, this is your wake-up call. It’s time to stop thinking of profit as “extra” and start seeing it as essential. Profitability ensures that your business will last, grow, and serve people in the long run.
