For my first blog post, I thought of writing about so many things. Then I realized, I’m meeting most of my audience for the first time. What better way to start things off than introducing myself in a fun post? Right!
I know you have a lot of questions, let me start by answering a few so you can get to know me.
1. What does your first name mean?
My first name is “Chinyere” (CHIN-YERE). But, everyone calls me “Chichi”. “Chichi” is a short form of “Chinyere”. “Chichi” means “God God”. Chinyere means “God’s Gift”. I’m a gift to my generation. No wonder one of my favorite past times is giving and receiving gifts. I’m a gift giver and a gift lover.
2. What is your biggest personal challenge?
Embracing constructive feedback and being accountable are my biggest personal challenges. I’m aggressive about overcoming this challenge. I’ve opened myself up to receiving feedback and being accountable to mentors, peers, and mentees. I read this quote “Accountability is the breakfast of champions” from “The One Thing” book and it has helped me on this journey.
3. Where did you go to school and how does what you studied in school help you in your daily work?
High School – I went to Command Day Secondary School in Lagos, Nigeria.
College – I went to Babcock University for my Computer Science degree.
Master’s – I went to The University of Illinois at Springfield for my Master’s in Management Information System.
Website Development – I went to The Iron Yard Coding Bootcamp for Frontend Web Development.
Everything I’ve learned so far I use to run my business and organize my life.
4. What was your favorite/worst subject in High School?
Math and Physics were my absolute favorites. I was so obsessed I refused to learn how to cook at some point. I wanted to work on Math and Physics only. I got in so much trouble with my Mom. That’s a story for another day. Biology and Chemistry were my absolute worst. I have no medical inclination whatsoever.
5. What gets you excited every day to show up and do your best work?
My commitment to serving God’s purpose in my life. It fuels my commitment to keep my word as a Wife, Mom, Entrepreneur, Sister, Friend, Daughter, Influencer, and the list goes on.
6. Where in Nigeria are you from and how many languages do you speak?
I’m from the Eastern part of Nigeria. Abia State in particular. I’m from “The Igbo” tribe. I speak three languages – English, Igbo, and Yoruba. I’m most frequent in English. I was born, raised, and schooled in the Western part of Nigeria a.k.a. “The Yoruba” tribe. Both tribes are known for their entrepreneurial nature, love for academics, and intellectual curiosity.
7. What are you most passionate about in life?
I’m passionate about empowering women to rise above rejection, setbacks, and limiting beliefs. I’m passionate about teaching women to lead an organized, authentic, and fulfilled life.
8. When was the last time you cried?
December 4, 2019. I was heartbroken from an experience I had with a manager at a truck rental store. The resident manager who rents to me every week had an emergency. He didn’t explain the process of renting the truck to the acting manager. My team and I had a tight deadline to drop off packages at the cargo airline in time for international shipping. I was at the risk of disappointing so many customers if I didn’t meet my deadline. Frustrated with other business challenges I faced that week and the acting manager’s refusal to rent the truck to me, I broke down and cried like a baby. In the end, the acting manager came around after speaking to the resident manager who explained the process to her. I was able to meet my deadline. Frustration is real! But, we rise above it.
9. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
As a fashion and shoe lover, I notice physical appearance, clothing, shoe, and all things visual. I wish I had some kind of superpower to see beyond the physical. It’s easy to judge people by their visual presentation until they share their story with you then you regret judging them. Can I get a witness? I’m learning to be patient to hear other people’s stories before forming opinions in my head based on the physical.
10. Have you always been business-minded?
Yes, for as long as I can remember. My Mom is an Entrepreneur. She always talked about how being an entrepreneur was the best thing anyone could do. I worked in many businesses she owned from middle school up to my college days. I started my first side hustle in college. I sold ramen noodles (known as Indomie Noodles in Nigeria), canned sardines, and cookies (known as biscuits in Nigeria).
