The other day, I was chatting with my virtual assistant, and I shared something that’s been on my heart for a while: serving with excellence in business is a powerful way to glorify God.
Think about it. When we look at how heaven is described in the Bible—like in Revelation where it says the streets are made of gold—it paints a picture of unmatched excellence. If heaven, God’s home, is that detailed and intentional, then as kingdom entrepreneurs, shouldn’t our work reflect that same standard?
Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” That mindset changes everything. When you view your business as God’s business, you’ll naturally want to operate in excellence—not perfection, but excellence.
So, let’s dive into four key biblical principles that will help you serve your clients (and God!) well in your service-based business.
This one is huge.
Proverbs 11:3 says, “Good people will be guided by honesty; dishonesty will destroy those who are not trustworthy.”
Integrity means doing what you say you’re going to do. It means keeping your promises, even when it’s hard. And let’s be honest—sometimes, life happens. We drop the ball. I’ve done it more times than I can count. But here’s the thing: integrity doesn’t mean being perfect; it means taking responsibility when things go wrong.
When you miss a deadline, own it. When you make a mistake, fix it. Clients respect honesty far more than a flawless track record.
People can tell when you’re being real with them. And in a world full of marketing fluff and empty promises, your honesty will set you apart.
Your integrity will speak louder than any sales pitch.
This principle is all about consistency and effort.
Proverbs 13:4 says, “The lazy will not get what they want, but those who work hard will.” Simple, right?
But real talk—being diligent isn’t always glamorous. It’s not the highlight reels you see on Instagram. It’s the behind-the-scenes grind: practicing your craft, improving your systems, serving clients well even when no one is watching.
Whatever your service is—coaching, design, virtual assistance—commit to mastering it. Diligence is how you grow, how you build trust, and how you show up with excellence.
One of the best ways to support diligence in your business is by setting up systems. Create workflows. Map out your customer journey. Use a task management system. These tools take the guesswork out of your day-to-day and help you stay consistent, even on the days when your motivation is low.
Excellence isn’t random—it’s the result of structure and discipline. And those come through diligence.
God didn’t just give you gifts to sit on. He gave them to you for a reason: to serve others and to multiply them.
In Matthew 25:14-30, we see the parable of the talents. The servant who buried his one talent and didn’t use it? Yeah, that didn’t go well for him.
Being a faithful steward means putting your gifts to work, and one of the most powerful ways to do that is through automation and delegation.
I remember listening to a mentor of mine talk about her struggle with delegation. She had this mindset that if something had to be done right, she had to do it herself. Sound familiar? But then she shared something that stopped me in my tracks: if Jesus could delegate the gospel—literally the most important mission ever—to us, His followers, then there’s nothing in our business we can’t delegate.
Let that sink in.
Delegation isn’t laziness. It’s wisdom. It frees up your time to focus on what only YOU can do. Things like vision casting, coaching, creating, and connecting with your audience.
So, what can you delegate?
You don’t have to do it all yourself. Hire a virtual assistant. Work with a project manager. Partner with someone who can support your backend so you can shine in your zone of genius.
And let’s not forget automation. Tools like ChatGPT, task management systems, and email schedulers can save you hours each week. Set up recurring tasks, automate your client onboarding process, schedule your emails—work smart, not hard.
When you steward your time well, you’ll have more energy, more clarity, and more joy in your business.
Let’s talk about pricing, because this is one area where a lot of kingdom entrepreneurs struggle.
You know you’re called to help people. You love what you do. But when it comes to setting your prices? You freeze up. You worry that charging too much is greedy… or that no one will pay you what you’re worth.
But here’s the truth: toxic pricing does not glorify God.
Luke 10:7 says, “A worker deserves his wages.”
When you undercharge for your services, you end up exhausted, burnt out, and unable to deliver your best. Excellence costs something. And your pricing should reflect the value and effort you put into what you do.
Your business needs to serve you too. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
So ask yourself:
If the answer is no, it’s time to revisit your pricing.
Charging fairly doesn’t mean overcharging—it means honoring the value of your work and trusting that the right clients will see it too.
When you sell with integrity, you’re not being selfish. You’re giving people the opportunity to invest in transformation. You’re helping them move forward in their lives or businesses. Selling is just another form of serving.
Here are the four biblical principles to help you serve well in your service-based business:
Whether you’re just starting out or already running a full-time business, take a few minutes today to reflect.
Ask yourself:
Don’t judge yourself—just observe. Growth starts with awareness. The beautiful thing is, with God as your CEO, there’s always grace to improve, adjust, and keep going.
When you serve well, it honors God. When you serve with excellence, it shows the world what the kingdom of God looks like—thoughtful, intentional, and full of love.
So go out there and serve with kingdom excellence.
You’ve got this.
