Have you ever felt stuck trying to figure out how to create content for your service-based business? Maybe you know you need to show up online, but you don’t know where to start. Well, I’ve got you covered! Today, I’m walking you through my simple PCL formula for creating long-form content. Trust me, by the end of this, you’ll have a clear roadmap to get started.
If you haven’t yet decided on which type of long-form content to focus on, I recommend checking out my previous post on choosing the right format. But for now, let’s dive into the step-by-step process!
Before we get into the PCL formula, let’s talk about why long-form content is a game changer. Simply put, it helps you attract new leads, gain brand visibility, and establish yourself as an expert in your field. There are three main types:
Each one has its unique benefits, and once you choose the right fit for your business, you’ll need a clear system to create and launch it. That’s where my PCL formula comes in.
The first step to creating effective long-form content is planning. Here’s what you need to do:
✅ Set a Launch Date: Having a deadline helps you stay accountable and organized.
✅ Define Your Audience: Who is this content for? Be as specific as possible.
✅ Outline Your Content Categories: Think about the key topics you’ll cover within your niche.
✅ Choose a Name: Whether it’s a blog, podcast, or vlog, you need a compelling name that reflects your brand.
✅ Decide on a Hosting Platform: Will your blog be on WordPress? Your podcast on Spotify? Your vlog on YouTube?
✅ Figure Out Logistics: What tools, software, or equipment do you need?
✅ Establish a Posting Schedule: Will you post weekly? Biweekly? Monthly?
✅ Determine Content Style: Will you be doing solo episodes, interviews, or guest posts?
Once you have all these pieces in place, it’s time to move on to the fun part—creating!
Now that you have a solid plan, it’s time to create! Here’s how:
✅ Start Producing: If it’s a blog, write your posts. If it’s a podcast, start recording. If it’s a video, hit record!
✅ Design Graphics: Create eye-catching images for promotion.
✅ Develop a System: Use tools like Google Drive for organization and project management apps to track your progress.
✅ Batch Content Creation: Try recording or writing multiple pieces of content at once to stay ahead.
✅ Edit and Polish: If you’re doing a podcast or video, make sure to edit out mistakes and improve the quality.
✅ Prepare Promotion Materials: Draft announcement emails, social media posts, and promotional graphics.
At this stage, your content is almost ready for the world to see!
The final step is putting your content out there! This is where many people get stuck, but I promise it’s not as scary as it seems.
✅Hit Publish: Whether it’s a blog post, podcast episode, or video, press that button!
✅ Execute Your Promotion Plan: Share your content on social media, email your audience, and spread the word.
✅ Engage With Your Audience: Reply to comments, answer questions, and encourage interaction.
✅ Track Performance: Use analytics tools to see what’s working and what needs tweaking.
✅ Stay Consistent: The key to success is showing up regularly, so stick to your content schedule.
Creating long-form content doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By following the PCL formula—Plan, Create, Launch—you’ll be able to establish a strong online presence and attract the right audience to your business.
Remember, faith without action is dead. If God has put a business idea on your heart, don’t let fear hold you back. Take that first step, create your content, and watch how things unfold!
