Let’s talk about something that has completely changed the way I manage my time—time blocking! If you’ve ever felt like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to work on your business, take care of your family, and still have time for yourself, then this is for you.
I used to struggle with feeling like I was being pulled in a million different directions. I had so many responsibilities—home life, work, and my coaching business—but I never felt like I was getting enough done. Then I discovered Chelsea Joe’s five-block time-blocking method, and let me tell you, it has been a game-changer!
So, if you’re constantly feeling overwhelmed and like there’s never enough time to work on your business, stick with me. I’m going to break this down for you so you can start managing your time better and finally make progress on your business dreams!
Time blocking is a productivity method where you divide your day into blocks of time and assign specific tasks to each block. It helps you stay focused, avoid distractions, and actually get things done instead of constantly feeling like you’re playing catch-up.
Now, there are different ways to do time blocking. I first learned about it when I read The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. That book really opened my eyes to the power of focusing on what truly matters.
Before I found Chelsea Joe’s method, I was using a simple three-block system:
This worked okay, but I found that some tasks were getting lost, and my time blocks felt too stretched out. I needed something more structured. That’s when I discovered Chelsea Joe’s five-block time-blocking method, and wow—what a difference!
Chelsea Joe’s method breaks the day into five time blocks:
Let me walk you through how each block works and how you can start using this method to balance your business and personal life more effectively.
This is your me time—the time to focus on yourself before anyone else in your home is awake. It’s perfect for quiet time, prayer, journaling, exercise, or anything that helps you start your day with intention.
For me, this is when I work on my faith, read my Bible, and plan my day. No kids, no distractions—just me and my thoughts. It’s a great way to set the tone for the day!
This block is all about family and home responsibilities. If you have kids, this is the time for breakfast, school prep, and getting everyone out the door. If you’re a work-from-home mom, you might use this time for tidying up, morning chores, or anything that helps your home run smoothly.
During this block, I’m fully focused on my family—getting my kids ready, making sure breakfast is sorted, and doing light house chores.
This is where you focus on your business or job. If you work a 9-to-5, this is your traditional work block. If you run a business, this is your dedicated time to work on it—client calls, content creation, marketing, etc.
For me, this block is divided between my coaching business and my other service-based business. It’s the time when I completely focus on work, with little to no distractions from family.
Now it’s time to switch back to family mode. This is when I make dinner, help my kids with homework, and enjoy some quality time together.
If you have a busy household, this block is perfect for resetting after a long workday and making sure your family gets the attention they need. It’s also a great time for things like family devotion, game night, or just unwinding together.
Finally, we end the day with another round of me time. This is when you can do your nighttime skincare routine, read a book, or just relax with your spouse. It’s a time to wind down and reset before bed.
For me, this block is essential because it allows me to mentally prepare for the next day. I use this time to reflect, journal, and plan out my priorities for tomorrow.
The reason I switched from my old three-block system to this five-block method is that it gives me clear structure and flexibility. Each block has a specific purpose, and it allows me to focus on what truly matters without feeling scattered.
Here’s why this method works so well:
It helps you balance family, work, and personal time
It removes the guilt of “not doing enough”
It’s flexible enough to adjust to different seasons of life
It ensures that everything important gets the attention it deserves
If you’re tired of feeling overwhelmed and you want to finally make time for your business, I highly recommend trying out Chelsea Joe’s time-blocking method.
